Founded in 2013 and dedicated in the memory of LCpl Alec Terwiske who sacrificed his life in 2012 while serving in the USMC. Alec is the nephew of Dane and Amy Patterson and thank you to them and their family for their nephews ultimate sacrifice. Alec loved baseball and loved being a Marine.
Every year the Athletics Baseball Association is priveleged to honor over 100 fallen heroes from all over Ohio and other states. Each team from 9u-18u will have fallen hero jerseys and each player in the Association will be assigned a hero to honor. This program is designed to teach baseball players the meaning of sacrifice and the ultimate meaning of Memorial Day. Each player is given a packet of information on their hero and all we ask of them is to reach out to their heroes family and let them know that their son or daughters ultimate sacrifice has not been forgotten. Honor, respect, and sacrifice are huge qualities of the Athletics Baseball Association and the fallen hero program ties all those qualities and more into this belief. Big thank you to the Patterson family for all their time, effort, and dedication to the Fallen Hero Program.

Speaking on behalf of my team (2018-17u Athletics Baseball Association), wearing the Fallen Heroes jersey and being a part of that program, was nothing short of a humbling experience. Last year our players received their hero hero information in the spring, and each one of them reached out to the family members of their "Fallen Hero" through twitter, facebook, or some form of social media. Almost every family member responded immediately with heartfelt gratitude and appreciation. Our players gained a greater sense of respect and appreciation for our service men and woman, and especially for those families who have had to lay their loved one to rest, knowing that he/she gave their life trying to defend our country, and fighting for our freedoms. Each one of our players understood that they wouldn't be allowed to play the sport they loved if it wasn't for the name on the back their "Fallen Hero" jersey doing their part to fight for our freedom. In every tournament we attended, received positive feedback from the other teams, coaches, umpires, and fans about our "Fallen Hero" jersey. The feedback was not about the look of the shirt, which was appealing-rather, it was about what the jersey stood for and how awesome it was that our boys would think to put someone else's name on their back, rather than their own. I am proud to be a part of the "Fallen Hero" program, and I am excited to watch it grow and hopefully impact many more players and families.
Thanks,

Fallen Hero's the name says it all if you understand what a Fallen Hero really is. Too often we utilize Memorial Day as a day to enjoy food and drink with family and miss the true meaning. When I first joined the Athletics, I heard about the program but my team did not participate for one reason or another. After last years season I realized what a big opportunity my team was missing to teach our youth about what these brave men and women sacrificed for us. The program has allowed the ABA to have a platform to impact over 100 kids within our own organization and now additional outside our organization.
I struggle to capture the true emotion this program has created for me and many others. I have watched our baseball family's cry and laugh, with the Fallen Hero families. The feeling I get witnessing these interaction can't be captured in words in an email. This program is one that will never leave the Athletics. I believe the fallen heroes program is something other organizations should adopt not for a jersey but for the talking points it opens up for each player.

"Honor to the solider and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country's cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as best he can, the same cause."-Abraham Lincoln
I think Lincoln said it best, it is our responsibility as citizens to HONOR those in the field the best we can, and this is a way to serve our soldiers and sailors.
Thank you Patterson family for your nephews sacrifice and developing this program not for money but for the right reasons, HONOR!
